'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' Trailer: Kasi Lemmons' Whitney Houston Biopic Arrives This Christmas

The story of superstar singer Whitney Houston is ultimately one about tragedy. Gone well before her time, one of the world’s brightest stars and greatest singers of all time still was able to leave an indelible mark on the world, which is shown in the new film, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”

As seen in the trailer for the film, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” stars Naomi Ackie as Whitney Houston, a woman who exploded on the music scene in the ‘80s after people became transfixed with her incredible voice. Dominating the world of music for decades, her story reached its tragic end when Houston passed away in 2012.

Joining Ackie in the cast are Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, and Clarke Peters. The film is directed by Kasi Lemmons, based on a script by Anthony McCarten. Of course, if you’ve been paying attention, McCarten is the writer behind “Bohemian Rhapsody,” so you might be able to piece together just what type of biopic we’re dealing with here.

“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” arrives in theaters on December 23, just in time to take advantage of the Christmas holiday. You can watch the trailer below.
