Jessica Chastain & Kristen Wiig Could Join Matt Damon In Ridley Scott's 'The Martian'

Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig Circle Ridley Scott’s ‘Martian’We’re still several months from seeing Ridley Scott‘s next movie, Biblical epic "Exodus: Gods And Kings," but the ever-busy director is already prepping his next picture, sci-fi film "The Martian." Penned by "Cabin In The Woods" helmer Drew Goddard, and based on the book by Andy Weir, it’s a realistic story of an astronaut stranded on Mars, and is set to star Matt Damon.

But it looks like this isn’t a "Gravity" or "All Is Lost"-style solo outing, as Damon won’t be alone. Deadline reports that both Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are in talks to join the actor in the project, in the lead female roles. Chastain is apparently further along in negotiations than Wiig; the former continues her space-bound run after a role in Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming "Interstellar," while the latter is a more surprising choice, landing her most high-profile dramatic gig to date here.

We’ve heard great things about Goddard’s script, which is apparently more "Apollo 13" than "Prometheus," so we’re hopeful that with a cast like this, it could be a return to form for Scott. And if nothing else, it shows that he’s still prolific in his 70s. If the film makes its November 25th 2015 date that Fox is planning, it’ll be Scott’s fourth movie in four years.
