Kristen Stewart's Working With 'Saint Maud' Director Rose Glass On 'Love Lies Bleeding'

With Oscar season nearly over, plenty of filmmakers, craftspeople, and actors are working overtime in the final leg of their campaigns. One of those actors, who arguably hasn’t overly campaigned, but is still doing her due diligence, is Kristen Stewart, currently vying for a Best Actress nomination for her celebrated turn in the Pablo Larrain drama, “Spencer.

Yesterday, Stewart visited the 92Y in New York City to host a special screening of “Spencer.” Afterward, Stewart sat down with film critic Thelma Adams to discuss the film — and when the conversation turned to the topic of the state of movies, Stewart took the opportunity to talk up her next project, a collaboration with “Saint Maud” director Rose Glass. “She’s such a singular visionary artist,” the actor explained, “and such a little mousy, crazy, psycho – has so much to say, is absolutely going to change stuff for us. And I’m so excited to even just know her.”

This news probably won’t come as a shock to those who have followed Stewart’s award-season circuit. Back in November, the actress told Uproxx that “Saint Maud” was her favorite movie of the year, taking the opportunity to give Glass “a little plug” as part of the broader conversation. Given Stewart’s penchant for seeking out projects with specific filmmakers, it would seem that the actress is doing more.

“Saint Maud” is, of course, a psychological horror about a pious nurse who becomes dangerously obsessed with saving the soul of her dying patient, and its acclaim also launched the career of its star Morfydd Clark.

So what is Glass’ next project? Well, it hasn’t been officially announced anywhere, but eagle-eyed fans have noticed it has turned up in many places like Production Weekly and the Film & Television Production Alliance. According to the latter site, Glass’ next project is apparently titled “Love Lies Bleeding” and is a love story fueled by ego, desire, and the American dream (and steroids) centering on a woman determined to be a body-building champion who finds her life and attitude altered by the use of steroids.

According to Production List, Glass is writing with and directing (though Weronika Tofilska is listed as a co-writer), and some producers include Andrea Cornwell and Oliver Kassman, both of whom produced “Saint Maud.”

Is Stewart about to get jacked for her next film and take on another serious challenge? It’s really too soon to know for sure if this is Glass’ next project and the one that Stewart intends to star in. But it’s undoubtedly the most concrete and educated guess out there so far. Reports like this will like spurn on official announcements either way soon. Update: THR has confirmed all these details. A24 is releasing the film.
