This was the last year the Grammy Awards were broadcast on CBS, and the day began with a pre-show, Grammy Premiere Ceremony hosted by Darren Criss and streamed on YouTube. 86 awards were handed out, beginning with dance and electronic categories, which saw Lady Gaga, Tame Impala, Doechi, and FKA Twigs take trophies. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo also won Pop/Duo Group Performance for “Defying Gravity” from“Wicked.”

The main ceremony was hosted for the sixth and final time by Trevor Noah. The broadcast will move from ABC to CBS beginning in 2027. Yes, big changes are in store, but this year saw Kendrick Lamar dominate the night, taking Record of the Year for “Luther,” Rap Album for “GNX,” Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Luther” With SZA, as well as Best Rap Song winners – “tv off” Kendrick Lamar featuring Franklin Holladay. Those wins saw the LA icon pass Jay-Z as the most Grammy-awarded Rapper of all-time.
Bad Bunny won Musica Urbana Album for “DeBiTirarMas Fotos” and earned a standing ovation for beginning his acceptance speech with “ICE Out!” He later won the final award of the night, Album of the Year. He was contractually unable to perform due to his Super Bowl Halftime show a week from today. Other standout performers included Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, Olivia Dean, Tyler the Creator, Rose with Bruno Mars, who kicked off the show, and a fantastic In Memoriam led by Lauryn Hill and The Fugees.
Gaga started a big potential Grammy day off with two wins for Remixed Recording and Best Dance Pop Recording for “Abracadabra.” She later won Best Pop Vocal Album for “Mayhem.” Cirkut, the producer of Gaga’s “Mayhem,” nominated for Album of the Year, took the prestigious Producer of the Year Grammy.
Olivia Dean beat out an insanely competitive field to win Best New Artist. In a massive surprise, Lola Young won Pop Vocal Performance for “Messy,” beating out Gaga, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan. Another upset came in Song of the Year, where a shocked Billie Eilish and Finneas won for “Wildflower.” Eilish is now a 10-time Grammy winner.
Both Compilation Soundtrack and Score Soundtrack for Visual Media went to “Sinners.” “Golden” From “KPop Demon Hunters” took Song Written for Visual Media, an Oscar precursor for Best Original Song. Steven Spielberg earned his first Grammy Award as a producer of “Music by John Williams,” which won Best Music Film. The legendary filmmaker is now officially EGOT.
Kehlani won Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “Folded.” Leon Thomas took Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance for “MUTT.” Best Country Contemporary Album went to “Beautifully Broken” by Jelly Roll.
Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Music Performance went to The Cure for “Songs of a Lost World” and “Alone,” respectively. The legendary band was not on hand as they were attending the funeral of their longtime guitarist Perry Bamonte.
Songwriter of the Year went to Amy Allen.
