Lawrence Kasdan Reportedly Done With 'Star Wars' Franchise After Han Solo Movie, Plus New 'Force Awakens' Covers

Star Wars: The Force Awakens"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" doesn’t just represent a new chapter in the blockbuster saga, it’s a the passing of the torch. Narratively, a new cast is getting ready to continue the adventure first started by the classic characters, and in a bigger sense, George Lucas has let his baby go to J.J. Abrams and a new school of filmmakers. And it looks like another key component of the "Star Wars" movies so far, is getting ready to move on.

Lawrence Kasdan, the screenwriter behind "Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back," "Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi," and of course, the upcoming ‘The Force Awakens,’ will apparently put down the lightsaber after he’s done his next "Star Wars" script. The word comes from an interview with German paper Bild (via The Supernaughts), where he said, "I did four ‘Star Wars’ movies. That’s more than enough" and "I want to work as a director again.”

The speculation is open about what that fourth movie he’s talking about actually is, but some educated guesswork suggests it’s the Han Solo spin-off movie he’s co-writing with his son Jon Kasdan, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller slated to direct.

Whether or not Kasdan will walk away entirely remains to be seen, but I could easily seen him sticking around to least consult with the brain trust.

Meanwhile, a boatload of new ‘The Force Awakens’ info is on the way from EW, who will be serving it up throughout the day. But things are kicking with a batch of new covers which you can check out below.
