'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile' Teaser: Javier Bardem & Shawn Mendes Star In New Musical About A Singing Croc

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” fits in with that whole “Clifford the Big Red Dog” genre of kids’ stories where it’s so ridiculous that you have to leave your common sense at the door. It’s a story about a family that sorta, kinda becomes the caretakers of a talking crocodile who also is a world-class singer. And then, they go on some sort of madcap adventure through the streets of New York City, singing and dancing the whole time. It’s bananas. And it’ll likely make a ton of money.

The cast for the film includes Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, Scoot McNairy, Brett Gelman, and Shawn Mendes as Lyle. Obviously, for a lot of younger audiences, the fact that Mendes is voicing Lyle (and also providing the vocals for the various songs) is a huge draw. For older audiences, Javier Bardem jumping around like a maniac might be worth the price of admission. “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, who are best known for directing the raunchy comedy, “Office Christmas Party.”

“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” hits theaters on October 7. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

When the Primm family (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle – a singing crocodile (Shawn Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primm’s must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.
