Margot Robbie Upgrades To Star In ‘Avengelyne,’ ‘Poor Things’ Writer Tony McNamara To Pen Script

Following the announced team-up of director Olivia Wilde and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap productions for the adaptation of “Deadpool” creator Rob Liefield’sAvengelyne,” the project is receiving some serious upgrades. For one, Robbie, who was initially announced as only a producer on the project, is now attached for the lead role. Furthermore, an exciting new writer has been added to the project.

Variety reports that Tony McNamara, the acclaimed playwright and two-time Oscar nominee behind Yorgos Lanthimos’Poor Things” and “The Favourite” will be penning the script.

Wilde is set to direct the picture, coming off 2022’s “Don’t Worry Darling” and the critically acclaimed coming-of-age comedy “Booksmart.” Created by Rob Liefeld and Cathy Christian, Avengelyne will be produced by Robbie as well, alongside Wilde and Simon Kinberg, best known for his work on the “X-Men” movies

Robbie is set to portray the titular character who fights evil and oftentimes comes toe-to-toe with various demons and monsters. “This incredibly humbling journey to bring Avengelyne to life onscreen started through my relationship with super-producer Simon Kinberg, who told me he had a perfect fit for the material and asked me to trust him, Liefeld—who also co-created the beloved Marvel character Deadpool— told Variety in an exclusive statement. “They told me that they wanted Tony McNamara to write it, and after a pair of meetings, Tony is onboard, and things could not be more exciting. It’s all a result of Margot, Olivia, and Simon working their magic to assemble this incredible team of creatives, all intent on creating a cinematic experience like no other!”

Robbie’s production company LuckyChap will undoubtedly be booked and busy for the next little while, as it was recently announced that they would produce a feature film adaptation of the “Sims” video game series and a film based on the “Monopoly” board game.
