Mark Ruffalo Reportedly Eyed To Star In HBO’s ‘Parasite’ TV Series

The conversation surrounding the recently-announced “ParasiteHBO series has gone from “How could they!?!” to “Okay, maybe” since details have been discussed favorably by filmmaker Bong Joon-ho. And now, after the huge, historic night for Bong’s feature film “Parasite,” the HBO series might actually get the boost it needs in the eyes of fans if the first casting pans out, as Mark Ruffalo is reportedly up for a lead role.

According to Collider, Ruffalo is reportedly being eyed for a lead role in HBO’s “Parasite” TV series. No word on what role that might be, as casting hasn’t officially begun. But still, if true, this could be the exact thing HBO needs to convince fans of Bong’s film to give the TV series an honest shot.

We really don’t have to go through the career of Mark Ruffalo to point out why he’d be a great choice for the “Parasite” TV series. For those that have seen the film, there are likely two roles that would fit the actor’s age and ability—the father roles. Without going into detail and potentially spoiling the series, there are two father roles in “Parasite” that could play to multiple sides of Ruffalo’s acting ability. In my estimation, I think he’d be great in the role that Song Kang-ho played in the feature film. But then again, if this is the caliber of actor they’re hoping to get for the HBO adaptation, then Ruffalo could just be a valuable part of the ensemble in any role.

As mentioned, last night turned out to be incredible for Bong Joon-ho and his film. Not only did the film win the Best International Film, as anticipated, but the filmmaker also took home trophies for Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture, making history in each category. So, as if HBO didn’t have pressure on itself to make a quality “Parasite” adaptation before, last night’s Oscars ensured that the TV series will be under even more scrutiny.
