Marlon Wayans Joins Sofia Coppola's Apple/A24 Film 'On The Rocks' Opposite Bill Murray

Back a few months ago, it was revealed that the duo of Bill Murray and filmmaker Sofia Coppola were going to reteam for a new film, the first in the partnerships between Apple and A24, titled “On the Rocks.” Since then, we haven’t really heard anything about the film, except for the fact that Coppola appeared in a teaser video unveiled during Apple’s recent press conference where the tech company announced it’s content-making plans. But now, it appears the casting train is keeping on moving, as “On the Rocks” continues to move towards production.

Deadline is reporting that Marlon Wayans is the latest actor to join Coppola’s next film. The comedian joins Murray and previously-announced actress Rashida Jones in the A24-produced film that will be distributed by Apple. The film is said to follow a young mother (Jones), who attempts to reconnect with her New York City playboy father (Murray).

Wayans is probably best known for his work as a stand-up comedian and actor in films like “The Ladykillers,” “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra,” “White Chicks,” and the upcoming Netflix film “Sextuplets.” He also appeared in the highly successful horror parody franchise, “Scary Movie,” as well as, the NBC series “Marlon.”

No word on when “On the Rocks” will enter production, as the project is still kept under wraps, for the most part. We don’t even know for certain how the film will be distributed. As mentioned, Apple is getting into the content-creating game, with original series and films, but most of what’s been announced will be streaming exclusively on the company’s Apple TV+ service. Will “On the Rocks” go the route of a Netflix-like deal, where it will debut on the streaming service, or will the film get an Amazon-esque distribution deal where the film will hit theaters and have a traditional run before landing on the streaming service.

We’ll have to wait and see.
