Marvel Announces ‘WandaVision’ Scarlet Witch & Vision Show & Confirms Falcon/Winter Soldier Series

Disney’s whopping three-hour investment call today has consumed most entertainment media this evening, but Marvel Studios, of course, makes a lot of significant noise with their unveiling. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage for at the Disney inventors presentation and shed some more light on the upcoming Disney+ shows on the platform expected to premiere in November. (and will premiere for a cool $6.99)

Feige confirmed three of the four reported shows, plus their titles and some logos were revealed as well. The Winter Soldier and Falcon show is now known as “Falcon and The Winter Soldier” and as suspected will see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles as the Captain America best friends who kind of hate each other. But little else was unveiled beyond that. “We’ll be bringing together two characters who have been enemies; they’ve been friends and once again will be forced to team up: Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes,” he explained.

“These characters have appeared in six MCU films a piece and audiences have seen them as part of ‘The Avengers,’ but [on] Disney+, we now get a chance to take a deeper dive and learn much more about each of these heroes,” he added.

The Marvel chief also unveiled the title of the Scarlet Witch and Vision show (confirming the latter’s participation) now known as “WandaVision” starring Elisabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. No logo or further details were given, but concept art was revealed (however, not shown to those watching the stream. “We like to take big swings at this studio,” Feige said. “And as you can see from the concept art, this story is definitely something unexpected and surprising, as well as something we could only do in a long-form series.”

Lastly, Feige confirmed the “Loki” show starring Tom Hiddleston. “We don’t want to give too much away, but we can say the incredible Tom Hiddleston will be returning to the screen to star as Loki,” he said. “And we can’t wait to share what new adventures the God of Mischief will get into.”

While a “Hawkeye” series starring Jeremy Renner was just announced via the trades this week, Feige made no mention of this show or any other rumored titles (besides the animated and imagined “What If?” series that we covered separately here). But more is coming. “This is just a taste of what we’ve dreamed up for the service,” the Marvel prez said, teasing the way the stories will be build and how they will connect to the other stories. “There’s a great opportunity for us at Marvel Studios to tell stories in a new way and the entire creative team at the studio is excited to dig into and expand upon the previous 23 films we’ve made.”

“I can promise you,” he continued, “that each of these series will be equal to the movies in quality and storytelling. The Marvel chief said these Disney + series are immensely important to the company and will “change and evolve our existing characters while also introducing new ones in ways that deepen the mythology and significantly impact the future of the MCU.”

Lastly, Feige said the post “Avengers: Endgame” MCU existence will be “extremely different” and “extremely focused on Disney+ tying into our future.” When are these shows expected? Well, surprisingly, “Falcon & The Winter Soldier was mentioned first and was the only series to show off a logo. And while Feige said all of the feature-length Marvel titles would be available at the day-one launch of Disney+, including “Captain Marvel,” it’s unclear if the “Falcon and Winter Soldier” will be available in year one. A THR reporter did say on Twitter that “WandaVision” and “Loki” are not expected until year two of Disney +, so we should at least keep those expectations in check. Speaking of ‘Endgame,’ a sneak peek was shown to investors, and not made available on the stream, but it appears to be the same first clip that’s been floating online.
