'Mosaic' Trailer: Steven Soderbergh's Interactive Series Revealed

Quietly in the works for the past few years, there has been more rumor than fact when it comes to Steven Soderbergh‘s “Mosaic.” The director has bristled when his technology driven, ground-breaking project has been described as a Choose Your Own Adventure style project, which allows viewers and users of his unique type, to engage with the story. But now, he’s finally revealing what it’s all about.

Starring Sharon Stone, Garrett Hedlund, Frederick Weller, Beau Bridges, Paul Reubens, Jennifer Ferrin, Devin Ratray, Michael Cerveris, James Ransone, Jeremy Bobb and Maya Kazan, “Mosaic” will be both an interactive storytelling experience, available as a free download in November, and a six-part limited series of the same name that will air on HBO in January 2018.

“ ‘Mosaic’ is a branching narrative piece. While branching narratives have been around forever, technology now allows, I hope, for a more elegant, intuitive form of engagement than used to be possible. Also, we weren’t reverse engineering the story to fit an existing piece of technology; the story was being created in lockstep with the technical team. The fluidity of that relationship made me feel comfortable because I wanted it to be a simple, intuitive experience. I didn’t want moments where you are making a decision to feel like interruptions,” Soderbergh said in a statement.

And the world he’s build is huge, and there will be plenty to explore.

“…set aside your time, because if you watch all the various nodes, it’s like seven and a half hours,” he said this summer.

“Mosaic” is something we’re very eager to plug into.
