Writer/director David Lowery and A24’s latest effort, “Mother Mary,” is heading to theaters this week, and a final trailer for the psychological thriller set within the world of pop music has made its way to us to share.
Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel lead a cast that also includes Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Sian Clifford, and FKA twigs.
An official logline for the new pic courtesy of A24:
Long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary (Hathaway) reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance.
Lowery’s past feature films include “The Green Knight,” “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” “Peter Pan & Wendy,” “The Old Man & The Gun,” “A Ghost Story,” and “Pete’s Dragon.”
Coel made waves with projects like “Chewing Gum,” “I May Destroy You,” and “Black Mirror” before landing bigger Hollywood projects like Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and Steven Soderbergh’s latest release, “The Christophers,” starring opposite Ian McKellen. Another gestating project for Coel is a remake of the Jean Claude Van Damme-led underground martial arts tournament flick “Bloodsport,” which sees her reuniting with A24, and we cannot wait to see how that one turns out.
Also, Jack Antonoff, Charli xcx, and FKA twigs are providing music for the film. Check out that new and final trailer for “Mother Mary” below, and you can read The Playlist’s review of the Lowery film right here.
