One name hotly tipped to feature in this year's Best Actress race is veteran Glenn Close whose gender-bending role as the titular "Albert Nobbs" is sure to get people talking.

Any fan of Showtime's HBO's "In Treatment" probably already knows what Rodrigo Garcia is capable of and we're hoping he's on par with his form as that particular program's showrunner and creator for this "under the stairs" drama about a woman that tries to pass for a man in 19th century Ireland in order to make her living. Man Booker prize-winning author John Banville teamed with Close to adapt Irish author George Moore’s short story, “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs,” for the screen.

One of Garcia's first season stars on the aforemtioned Showtime show, Mia Wasikowska, reunites with her helmer and plays a young maid who forms a dangerous and potentially tragic love triangle with title character Albert (Close) and young handyman Joe (to be played by Aaron Johnson). Janet McTeer, Pauline Collins, Brenda Fricker, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Brendan Gleeson also co-star.

Low key distribution houses Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions (who managed to push Javier Bardem to a Best Actor nom in "Biutiful" last year) have picked up the film with a fall release in mind. [TIFF]
