More “Peaky Blinders“? That’s what Steven Knight, Netflix, and the BBC have on order after the movie next year. Deadline reports that the hit show will return for two new six-part hourlong sequel series that follow up on the upcoming film’s story. So, yes, Knight’s recent promises that the show is far from over are true, and now one wonders if it’ll ever truly end.
But will star Cillian Murphy return? Outside of an executive producer credit on the shows, it’s unclear. All that’s really known about the sequels is that they’ll focus on the a generation of the Shelby clan. Here’s a logline to provide an overview:
“Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”
While casting and shooting dates for the sequel series remain up in the air, their production credits are all lined up. The shows will shoot at Knight’s Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, with Kudos and Garrison Drama producing. Other executive producers beyond Murphy and Knight include Karen Wilson & Martin Haines via Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook via Garrison Drama, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley will oversee the shows for Netflix.
Is it any surprise that “Peaky Blinders” keeps going? Not really. The gangster drama has steadily gained popularity and critical praise since its 2013 debut on BBC Two. The show really hit its stride after it premiered on Netflix a year later, running for six seasons before it initially concluded in 2022. Along with way, “Peaky Blinders” snagged a BAFTA for Best Drama Series for its fourth season, and Knight’s clout as a screenwriter soared to new heights. The show remains Knight’s mainstay, but he’s prolific the past decade, including other UK-set shows like “Taboo,” “A Thousand Blows,” and, most recently, “House Of Guinness.” Knight also pens Denis Villeneuve‘s upcoming “Bond 26,” but that won’t shoot until 2027.
Here’s a brief press statement from Knight to announce the new “Peaky Blinders” sequels: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the “Peaky Blinders” story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.”
Stay tuned for more details on the sequels as they arrive. As for “The Immortal Man,” the “Peaky Blinders” movie. It’s in post-production now, so expect Netflix to announce a release date for 2026 soon.
