Peter Billingsley To Star in 'A Christmas Story' Sequel From The Writer Of 'Gran Torino'

There are about a half-dozen Christmas films that seem to be the most iconic examples of the holiday season. And perhaps the most famous one is “A Christmas Story,” the 1983 period film that shows a real-life perspective of Christmas from the point-of-view of a young boy hoping to get a BB gun under the tree. And now it appears the film is getting a true sequel.

According to THR, Legendary is teaming up with WarnerMedia to make a sequel to “A Christmas Story,” titled, “A Christmas Story Christmas.” The film will actually bring back Ralphie actor Peter Billingsley to reprise his role. “A Christmas Story Christmas” will be set in 1970 and follow a grown Ralphie as he tries to make the holiday season extra special for his family.

But, wait a minute. Didn’t they already make sequels to “A Christmas Story?” Yes, they did. You might remember 1994’s “My Summer Story,” which stars Kieran Culkin as Ralphie. Or perhaps the aptly titled, “A Christmas Story 2,” which stars Braeden Lemasters in the role from 2012. Well, this new film, which will debut on HBO Max, is definitely going to forget those films even happened. And honestly, no offense, but it’s not a big loss.

“A Christmas Story Christmas” will be directed by Clay Kaytis, who is best known for making “The Christmas Chronicles” for Netflix. The film will be written by Nick Schenk, a writer who previously worked on features such as “Gran Torino” and “The Mule.”

A release date for “A Christmas Story Christmas” has yet to be announced, but let’s just assume it’s likely going to arrive around the holiday season, only on HBO Max.
