Producer Says 'The Departed' TV Show Will Add To Martin Scorsese's Film

It was late summer, and you might’ve missed the news as you enjoyed the waning weeks of the season, but a TV show based on Martin Scorsese‘s “The Departed” is in the works at Amazon. A drama about criminals and cops with moles in each other’s organizations is a pretty good foundation for a series, and an opportunity to go deeper into the intrigue on both sides of the equation. However, according to producer Graham King, the show will be a continuation of sorts from the events in Scorsese’s picture, though the location will change (so sorry, no mile wide Boston accents).

“….it’s starting again and adding to [the movie]. It takes place in Chicago right now and it’s very an early development stage, so we’re still playing around with the characters and the script. But Warners thought it was a great idea that we give this a shot,” he told HeyUGuys.

King also adds that bringing the story to TV afford deeper storytelling opportunities, saying, “…in a world like ‘[The] Departed.’ We can really have some fun with it.

We’ll see how this goes and if it ever gets to a series order, but it sounds like the puzzle pieces are still being sorted out. Jason Richman (“Detroit 1-8-7,” “Bangkok Dangerous“) will be penning the script that will focus on a cop infiltrating a Latino gang, while a gang member works his way into the police force. But while the producers behind the “The Departed” are involved, it doesn’t look like Scorsese himself will be putting his voice in the mix.
