Quentin Tarantino Rumored To Have Plans For An Extended 'Once Upon A Time' Cut To Debut As A Miniseries On Netflix

Back in April, Netflix and Quentin Tarantino surprised everyone by releasing an extended cut of “The Hateful Eight” on the streaming service as a four-episode miniseries. There was no formal announcement and zero hype, but when folks when to go check out the cut of the film with 25 minutes added, they were greeted by a TV series instead. Well, according to a new rumor, that’s exactly what the filmmaker has in mind with his latest work, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

According to NY Times writer Kyle Buchanan, Tarantino is rumored to have plans to release ‘Once Upon a Time’ as a series on Netflix, including the deleted scenes that were not added to the latest cut of the film.

“I keep hearing Tarantino told the ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD actors that he’ll put their deleted scenes back when he recuts the film into episodes for Netflix, akin to what he recently did with HATEFUL EIGHT,” tweeted Buchanan.

There was a lot of discussion about the length of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” when it debuted at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. At the time, the almost-3-hour film was screened as a preliminary cut, with Tarantino eventually wanting to go back and tinker some more. The version of the film that was released last week in theaters does have minor changes, but nothing that folks even noticed, for the most part.

However, it’s clear that there’s plenty of footage that was left on the cutting room floor, and thus, enough that might push ‘Once Upon a Time’ out of the realm of a typical film run-time. And if that’s the case, and the rumor is true, then it would make complete sense that the filmmaker would break it up into parts and release it as yet another Netflix miniseries.

Netflix isn’t known for announcing things way ahead of time, and since ‘Once Upon a Time’ just arrived in theaters, it’s likely that we won’t get confirmation, or denial, for that matter, on this until well down the line. But in the meantime, Tarantino fans might have something to look forward to in the future.
