Quentin Tarantino's Top 3 Films Of 2019 Include Scorsese's 'The Irishman' & Two Horror Films You Probably Don't Expect

Last month, Quentin Tarantino shocked quite a few film fans when he disclosed that his favorite film of the year, so far, was “Crawl,” the horror film about a girl and her dad trying to survive a flooded Florida crawlspace that is infested with alligators. Well, it appears that we have the filmmaker’s final top 3 of the year, and guess what? “Crawl” is no longer #1.

According to a tweet from Erick Weber, an awards columnist, Tarantino shared with him the top 3 films of the year. Yes, “Crawl” is one of the three, but fell down to #2 behind “The Irishman.” It appears that Martin Scorsese’s crime drama was a late surprise for Tarantino, who seems to have fallen in love with the Netflix film.

As mentioned, the alligator horror film followed in the #2 spot, but #3 actually goes to yet another horror film, one that many might not immediately think of — “Doctor Sleep.” That’s right, the sequel to “The Shining,” which was a massive box office bomb and seems to have been getting mixed-at-best reviews, beat everything other than the aforementioned pair of films in Tarantino’s mind.

Now, a cynic that doesn’t necessarily agree with this list might think that maybe Tarantino only saw four films all year (and he damn sure couldn’t name his own “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” as a choice), and so his choices were slim. Or maybe, unlike the vast majority of social media folks that are part of quote-unquote Film Twitter, Tarantino isn’t as obsessed with the likes of “Parasite,” “Pain & Glory,” or “A Hidden Life” as the rest of us?

Either way, the filmmaker’s top 3 films of 2019 are very Quentin Tarantino, and we’d expect nothing less.
