'A Quiet Place 2' Early Reactions Praise The Sequel & Call Millicent Simmonds The "New Ripley"

A Quiet Place” is a film that snuck up on many people in 2018 before it went on to become a global hit for Paramount. With its incredible use of sound and hardly any dialogue, the horror film was a phenomenon when it debuted, with fans itching for a sequel. Now, two years later, director John Krasinski returns with “A Quiet Place Part II” and according to early reactions from a recent screening, the sequel more than delivers.

Before we get to the reactions, we always try to provide a bit of a disclaimer. These are reactions from qualified critics, for sure, but they’re also short tweets that don’t allow for nuance and are presented by people, most likely, fresh from leaving the theater. So, to say that these are final judgments would be a gross miscalculation. These are just reactions and should be taken as such.

Heather Wixson summed up what most have been saying after the early screening, tweeting, “So #AQuietPlacePartII was incredibly tense & builds upon the story from the first film in some unexpected/inspired ways.”

Rotten Tomatoes’ Joel Meares gave special kudos to the young Millicent Simmonds and her performance in the film, tweeting, “Millicent Simmonds is my new Ripley — owns the film.”

Even without the early buzz seemingly being good, “A Quiet Place Part II” was already expected to be a massive blockbuster and one of the year’s biggest films up until now. So, it’s heartening to see that early reactions are so positive and that it appears Krasinski (and the franchise) are able to sustain more than one film in this universe.

“A Quiet Place Part II” arrives in theaters on March 20. You can read more reactions below.
