Rafe Spall Joins Lone Scherfig's Romantic Comedy 'One Day' Starring Anne Hathaway And Jim Sturgess

English thespian Rafe Spall has joined the cast of Lone Scherfig ‘s adaptation of David Nicholls’ romantic comedy “One Day” (Nicholls spilled the news on his website) rounding out casting for the leading quartet of characters in the story.

Spall joins a cast led by Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess who’ll star as a couple that has a one-night stand together at university and follows them on the same day, July 15th, every year for the next twenty. Romola Garai will play the wife of Sturgess’ character with Spall playing the partner of Hathaway’s character, a would-be stand up.

The actor is probably best known as one of the Andys in Edgar Wright’s “Hot Fuzz,” having also featured in “Shaun Of The Dead” and the “Don’t” segment in “Grindhouse.” He also just shot Roland Emmerich’s conspiracy-thriller “Anonymous” where he plays none other than William Shakespeare, whose authorship is under question in the story.

“One Day” is set to begin shooting this summer with a read-through apparently taking place last Friday and a third-quarter release for 2011 already set in place by Focus Features.
