‘Rolling Thunder Revue’ Trailer: Martin Scorsese’s New Doc Covers Bob Dylan & The Most Rebellious Tour Ever

A new doc about Bob Dylan that features interviews with the man himself and those closest to him is enough to warrant a watch from any music fan. Now, if that documentary is directed by iconic filmmaker Martin Scorsese, then you have something that is a must-watch for just about everyone on the planet. And so, the world better make some time in June to watch ‘Rolling Thunder Revue.’

As seen in the trailer for ‘Rolling Thunder Revue,’ the film follows the story of Dylan and the group of friends and fellow musicians that he brought on tour in 1975. Even though the musician was a household name at the time, the Revue was far from a traditional musical tour. Resembling a circus more than a rock concert, the show featured masks, face paint, various musicians, and a rebellious attitude that could have only been done by Dylan during this specific time in American history.

And yes, the film is directed by Scorsese, who is no stranger to music docs. Not only is Scorsese the man who brought you “Goodfellas,” “Raging Bull,” and “Taxi Driver” (to name only a few incredible films), he’s also responsible for a series of documentaries about music, including a TV series on Blues, titled “The Blues: Feel Like Going Home,” and others like “George Harrison: Living in the Material World,” “Last Waltz,” “Shine a Light,” and “No Direction Home: Bob Dylan,” which features the ‘Rolling Thunder’ subject.

“Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese” (boy, that’s a mouthful) is expected to have a short, “tour” in theaters and will hit Netflix on June 12.

Here’s the synopsis:

ROLLING THUNDER REVUE: A BOB DYLAN STORY BY MARTIN SCORSESE captures the troubled spirit of America in 1975, and the joyous music that Bob Dylan performed that fall. Master filmmaker Martin Scorsese creates a one-of-a-kind movie experience: part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream. Featuring Joan Baez, Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, Sam Shepard, Allen Ginsberg, and Bob Dylan giving his first on-camera interview in over a decade. The film goes beyond mere reclamation of Dylan’s extraordinary music—it’s a roadmap into the wild country of artistic self-reinvention.
