Rumor: Title For Marvel's Standalone 'Spider-Man' Movie Points To Big Future For The Webslinger

The Amazing Spider-ManTo the delight of hardcore fans, Spider-Man is back in the hands of Marvel, but thanks to labyrinthine contractual technicalities, Sony can still exploit the character, and they will do so with their own animated movie slated to hit in 2018, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller as producers (and possible directors). Meanwhile, Marvel is eager to quickly integrate Peter Parker into their cinematic universe. It’s widely expected that he’ll pop up in next year’s "Captain America: Civil War," setting the path for a standalone movie in 2017, leading to the character’s participation in the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War." So in a way, this next bit of news makes a lot of sense.

Latino Review is hearing that the standalone movie will be called "Spider-Man: The New Avenger." Evidently, the previously considered title was "The Spectacular Spider-Man," which following "The Amazing Spider-Man," seems uninspired. This new moniker will certainly let audiences know that this latest incarnation differs from the renditions featuring Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, and suggests that Marvel isn’t going to waste a moment in making the character a key figure in its  cinematic universe.

But again, this is all rumor. Production is gearing up on ‘Civil War’ which means casting the new, high-school age, "non-stop wit" Spider-Man will have to be finalized soon.

"Spider-Man: Whatever It’s Called" arrives on July 28, 2017.
