Ryan Reynolds Can't Sell An Ad For His Gin Without Using His Patented Brand Of Ironic Insincerity

Somewhere along the way, the person Ryan Reynolds has somehow molded into the character Ryan Reynolds and now we’re left with a man that just can’t seem to break free of his own brand of humor, which has bled into his “Deadpool” films (or has that character bled into his personal life?). It’s just getting very confusing. The easiest way to describe Reynolds is simply to say he’s Ryan Reynolds-ish. People will know what you mean. So, it’s no surprise that the Ryan Reynolds factor has been turned up to 11 for his new commercial for his gin company.

We don’t normally cover the latest and greatest alcohol ads here at The Playlist. Nor do we cover very many commercials, in general. (Yes, all movie trailers are inherently commercials, but you know what we mean). But there’s something about Reynold’s latest video posted for his Aviation Gin company that just made us stop in our tracks and realize something – it must be genuinely exhausting to be Ryan Reynolds.

In this new commercial, Reynolds talks directly to camera to explain just how much time, effort, prayer, music, and yes, real tears, go into the creation of each bottle of Aviation Gin. You see,it’s funny because it’s all bullshit. Of course, there’s no way to know for sure if a Unitarian minister blesses each bottle before it’s shipped, but our guess is that it never happens. Also, no matter how many tears he cries (which we can assume he wipes away with the piles of “Deadpool” cash), there’s no way its enough to personally mist each and every piece of citrus. And that’s where we are once again left to ponder where the real Ryan Reynolds ends and the character of Ryan Reynolds begins.

It truly must be exhausting to live 365 days a year as Deadpool, but yet, it appears that Reynolds does just that. We’re not throwing shade at the guy either. He’s genuinely funny, and the ad for his gin company made us chuckle quite a bit. It’s just the idea that no matter what he does, even if it’s for his alcohol side hustle, Reynolds has to be “on.”

But all that being said, it’s working. The actor/person is at the top of his game right now, riding high on his mega-franchise (which somehow released a regular cut, a “super duper” cut, and a Christmas-themed cut of the newest film all within one calendar year). Kudos to you, Deadpo…err, Mr. Reynolds.
