‘Search Party’ Season 3 Trailer: Still Self-Absorbed, But Now Famous For Murder

As the bevy of new streaming platforms fight for dominance or, in some cases, simply try to prove there is a reason for their existence (looking at you, Quibi), one unlikely contender has jumped ahead of the pack. The brand spanking new HBO Max is coming out swinging, boasting one very important accomplishment: bringing about the return of “Search Party.”

The criminally under-watched, but critically acclaimed and undeniably enjoyable dark comedy, will return soon with season three, but on a new platform. For those uninitiated, the show follows a foursome of “privileged, self-absorbed twenty-somethings whose search for a long-lost missing friend leads them down a dark and shocking path of no return.” Seasons one and two, which originally aired on TBS when the network was trying their hand at comedy,  will be available upon the launch of HBO Max on May 27, so better get to catching up ASAP. It’s a terrific show and one we put on our list of the Best TV Shows & Mini-Series’ Of The Decade.

Season three finds the gang swept up in the trial of the century after Dory (Alia Shawkat) and Drew (John Reyolds) are charged for the semi-accidental murder of a private investigator. As Elliott (John Early) and Portia (Meredith Hagner) grapple with whether or not to testify as witnesses, the friends are pitted against each other and thrust into the national spotlight as notorious public figures. As Dory’s sanity begins to fracture, it becomes increasingly clear that they may not have brunch together for quite some time.

Season three will also feature Michaela Watkins as a U.S. attorney on the group’s tail, Wallace Shawn as a devious investor, and – curveball – Shawn’s IRL longtime partner, writer, and bonafide genius, Deborah Eisenberg. “Search Party” is executive produced by Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers, Michael Showalter, and Jax Media’s Lilly Burns and Tony Hernandez.
