The SAG Awards are now the Actor Awards, but don’t let the name change confuse you. Members of the voting committee of the Screen Actors Guild have been attending screenings from coast to coast to vote for the best performances in film and television. This year, the 32nd edition of the honors was announced by “Abbott Elementary’s” Janelle James and “Heated Rivalry’s” Connor Storrie. “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners” lead the film nominees with 6 and 5 nominations, respectively. On the television side, “The Pitt” earned just two noms, “The Studio” landed 5 nods, and “Adolescence” took four.

The prestigious Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture nominees were “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” “Frankenstein,” “Marty Supreme,” and “Hamnet.” While all five of last year’s nominees in this category earned a Best Picture nomination in 2025 (the first time in a decade), it is not a guaranteed bellwether of a Best Picture nomination. Between 2022 and 2004, just four of the five nominees made the Best Picture cut. In 2021, just two of the nominees were rewarded by AMPAS, and in 2019 and 2020, just four of the five.
Overall, it was a disappointing morning for independent distributor NEON, which saw contenders from “The Secret Agent” and “Sentimental Value” shut out of the nominations. Those acclaimed international films should fare better with the smaller and more international Actors’ Branch of the Academy when the Oscar nominations are revealed in a little over two weeks. On the other hand, Focus Features had a banner day, landing six nominations, including a Lead Actor nomination for Jesse Plemons (“Bugonia”) and Lead Actress nominations for both Emma Stone (“Bugonia”) and Kate Hudson (“Song Sung Blue”). Netflix saw “Jay Kelly” and “Train Dreams” snubbed, but Jacob Elordi and “Frankenstein” recognized in Supporting Actor and Ensemble. The streamer dominated the television nominations with 15 overall.
Ensemble in a Drama Series nominees were “The Diplomat,” “The Pitt,” “Severance,” “The White Lotus,” and, in a major surprise, “Landman.” This was a huge nomination for the Taylor Sheridan hit series and its biggest guild recognition to date.
There were no surprises among the Ensemble Nominees for Comedy Series with “The Studio,” “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Hacks,” and “Only Murders in the Building” making the cut.
The Actors Awards will be handed out on March 1 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET and streamed live on Netflix worldwide.
