‘Solar Opposites’ Trailer: ‘Rick & Morty’ Co-Creator Returns With A New Series About Suburban Aliens

Honestly, all Hulu really needs to do to promote its upcoming animated comedy series, “Solar Opposites,” is just keep talking about how it’s co-created by Justin Roiland, one of the creators of “Rick & Morty.” The fact that the new trailer for the series is funny is only the icing on the cake. The real sell here is more Roiland.

“Solar Opposites” follows the story of a family of aliens that crashes on Earth and is forced to assimilate with suburban, American culture. And as you might expect, it’s not that easy. As mentioned, the series is co-created by “Rick & Morty” mastermind Justin Roiland, who teams with fellow co-creator Mike McMahan for this new series. McMahan previously worked with Roiland on the aforementioned “Rick & Morty,” but he’s also a writer-producer on the upcoming CBS All Access animated series, “Star Trek: Lower Decks.”

The cast for “Solar Opposites” includes Roiland (naturally), alongside Sean Giambrone, Thomas Middleditch, and Mary Mack. Guest stars include Alan Tudyk, Alfred Molina, Christina Hendricks, Gideon Adlon, Jason Mantzoukas, Ken Marino, Nat Faxon, Natalie Morales, Phil LaMarr, Rainn Wilson, Tiffany Haddish, Tom Kenny, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.

“Solar Opposites” is set to debut on Hulu on May 8.

Here’s the synopsis:

Co-created by Justin Roiland (co-creator of Ricky and Morty) and Mike McMahan (former head writer of Rick and Morty), Solar Opposites centers around a team of four aliens who have escaped their exploding home world, only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambroni) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty, while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food, and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth.
