'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Writers Wanted Post-Credits Scenes Featuring Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield

So, after months of speculation and leaks, it’s true— “Spider-Man: No Way Home” saw the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as different Peter Parkers to help Tom Holland’s new Peter Parker fight bad guys. And the film is exceeding even Sony’s wildest expectations, smashing box office records and earning rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, huh? Well, according to a recent Variety interview with the writers of ‘No Way Home,’ the film could have potentially ended with a bit more nostalgia.

Speaking about some ideas the writers had about more Maguire and Garfield in the film, the duo of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers talked about how they discussed the possibility of a post-credits scene with the two older Spider-Men, but nothing came of it. That said, there seems to be an excitement to see those two actors suit up for even more adventures.

“I would hope so!” McKenna said. “I would love to see more of their journey. We even talked about, ‘Oh, we could do a [post-credits] tag with this one! We could do a tag with that one!’”

Sommers jokingly added, “‘Can we do a TV show with the two of them traveling around in a van solving mysteries?’”

While it would seem unlikely that we’re going to get a “Scooby-Doo”-esque spinoff featuring the further adventures of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, there’s no denying that ‘No Way Home’ has reignited interest in their versions of Peter Parker. I guess this sort of is the obvious result when you have a film that has earned more than $1.3 billion in a matter of a few weeks.

But according to recent Apple rental charts (via Comicbook.com), Sony’s various ‘Spider-Man’ films have been seeing a huge surge in interest, thanks in no small part to ‘No Way Home.’ Currently, there are 10 ‘Spider-Man’ films (including two ‘Venom’ spinoffs) in the top 34 rentals on Apple.

For context, take 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Before ‘No Way Home,’ that film ranked #37 on the Apple rental chart, which is already pretty high but was no doubt the result of fan excitement and preparation for the new film. Now, after ‘No Way Home,’ that film ranked #6. The same goes for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which went from #25 to #10. And you can see the trend, right?

Of course, this renewed interest has led many fans to want more films or TV series with Garfield and Maguire, exploring the years between the end of their respective ‘Spider-Man’ franchises and their reappearance in ‘No Way Home.’ There are even rumors about this possibly happening, with Sony potentially having multiple Spider-Men in their own projects at the same time.

Either way, it’s clear that Sony’s various ‘Spider-Man’ franchises are seeing a huge increase in popularity and it’ll be interesting to see how the studio reacts. Surely, Sony isn’t going to leave money on the table, right?
