Steven Soderbergh's 'And Everything Is Going Fine' To Arrive In A Boxset Of Spalding Gray Documentaries Via The Criterion Collection

In the midst of our updates regarding Steven Soderbergh’s laundry list of upcoming projects — “Knockout,” “Contagion,” “Cleo” — we sort of forgot that the ridiculously busy director quietly had his latest documentary on Spalding Gray, “And Everything Is Going Fine” premiere at Slamdance this past January.

Gray, who committed suicide in 2004, was previously chronicled by Soderbergh in his 1996 film “Gray’s Anatomy.” According to the Slamdance synopsis, for ‘Everything’ Soderbergh “sifted through rare and revealing footage to construct a riveting final monologue.”

Well, the film unspooled at SXSW over the weekend and Hollywood Elsewhere’s Moises Chiullan was able to catch it. Attending the Q&A after the screening, he noted that one of the producer’s of the film announced, “We hope to see a box set come out through the Criterion Collection in 2011, but the deal’s not done yet.” We imagine the DVD label is still sorting out licensing agreements for the other Gray performance documentaries “Swimming To Cambodia” (directed by Jonathan Demme) and “Monster In A Box” (directed by Nick Broomfield).

There’s no word yet on a theatrical release and other than perhaps some brief runs in NY/LA we don’t expect any. But with 2011 a way off, it looks like we’ll have to wait a while yet to catch this one.
