Jim Mickle & Robert Downey, Jr's Netflix Series 'Sweet Tooth' Adds Will Forte To The Cast & Lands Full-Season Order

It was reported that Robert Downey, Jr. and filmmaker Jim Mickle were working on a series based on the comic book “Sweet Tooth” almost two years ago. But over that time, we haven’t heard much about the production or if Netflix would move forward with the series. Well, now it has been announced that Netflix is moving forward with the new series and has actually signed on a full cast and crew to bring the touching story to life.

Netflix announced that “Sweet Tooth” has been ordered for a full season, with Jim Mickle attached to co-write and direct the series. He’ll also co-showrun the series with his fellow producer and co-writer, Beth Schwartz. “Sweet Tooth” tells the story of Gus, who is part-deer and part-boy, as he leaves his home to travel across a post-apocalyptic earth. He joins up with a group of humans and animal-children to find out what happened to the world.

Mickle most recently released the underrated Netflix sci-fi/crime film, “In the Shadow of the Moon,” and is probably best known for the film “Cold in July.”

“Sweet Tooth” is set to star Christian Convery (“Beautiful Boy”), Nonso Anozie (“The Laundromat”), Adeel Akhtar (“The Big Sick”), Will Forte (“The Last Man on Earth”), and James Brolin (“Westworld”) as the voice of the narrator. And as mentioned, Robert Downey, Jr. along with his Team Downey production company will produce the new series.

There’s no release date set for “Sweet Tooth,” but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see what Downey, Jr and Mickle have in store for us.

Here’s the synopsis for the new series:

Sweet Tooth is the broad appeal, family-friendly, storybook adventure of Gus — part deer, part boy — who leaves his home in the forest to find the outside world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself in search of answers about this new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins.
