One of the most exciting aspects of experiencing a new “Star Wars” film is the John Williams score. Especially since news broke that Williams is leaving the franchise after ‘Episode IX,’ fans will want to cherish every note of music, while they can. If you’re one of those fans, then you’re in luck! Now that “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is officially available for digital download, not only will fans have the opportunity to re-watch the film, but also experience bonus content. And one such bonus you can find is a hidden music-only version of the film.
That is if you’re willing to jump through a couple hoops.
Following the screening of another bit of bonus content, “The Director and The Jedi” documentary, at SXSW, director Rian Johnson announced that fans who purchase the film in any format will have access to a version of the film with John Williams’s masterful score as the only audio accompaniment. “I really wanted to put this out, it’s really something to see John’s music play with the movie, like a silent film,” Johnson said in a tweet.
You can hear the Oscar-nominated score chime in at the 11:30 mark. At that point, all other audio including dialogue, special effects, and any other noise will be cut out for a pure, orchestral auditory experience. However, you need to make sure you have the Movies Anywhere app.
If you have the Movies Anywhere app, you can download the film, gaining access to bonus features, including the aforementioned documentary and orchestral version of the film. Movies Anywhere also carries content from Sony Pictures, Pixar, and Lucasfilm, just to name a few. Johnson admits it’s not the easiest way to gain access to the special feature, saying, “Kinda a pain I know, but I think it’s worth it to get this version.” And for once, “Star Wars” fans can unite and agree with Johnson. No matter what you think about Luke’s characterization, Snoke, Rey’s Parents, or any other plot point in ‘The Last Jedi,’ we can all agree that Williams score is well worth a listen.
And look on the bright side, if you haven’t used the Movies Anywhere app and can’t wait for the Blu-Ray and DVD of “Last Jedi,” here’s the perfect excuse to try it out.
