'The Loudest Voice' Trailer: Russell Crowe Puts On Pounds Of Prosthetics To Portray Fox News Boss Roger Ailes In Showtime Series

When you think of old, overweight Roger Ailes, you wouldn’t immediately assume that “Gladiator” star Russell Crowe would be the best choice to play the deceased media mogul. But yet, in June, Showtime aims to prove you wrong with its high-profile, star-studded limited series “The Loudest Voice.”

The series is set to show the meteoric rise and catastrophic fall from grace for one of the biggest names in cable news, Roger Ailes. The man behind Fox News can be credited for single-handedly creating the modern-day cable news fiasco that dominates the political landscape. However, his later years didn’t feature much discussion of his monumental successes. Instead, Ailes’ last days were marred by the revelations of sexual harassment and misconduct stories that forced him out of his position at Fox News and into controversy.

As mentioned, Crowe stars as Ailes in the series, but you wouldn’t immediately notice that thanks to the pounds of prosthetics and makeup that turned the handsome, middle-aged Crowe into the overweight, balding media mogul.

“The Loudest Voice” is the latest series to come from Blumhouse Productions, which in recent years, has strayed from its micro-budget horror roots into the world of TV and non-slasher projects, including this Showtime series, as well as films like “Whiplash” and last year’s Oscar-winning “BlacKkKlansman.” Scott Z. Burns and Kari Skogland are a couple of the filmmakers that are expected to helm episodes of the series.

Joining Crowe in the series are Naomi Watts, Sienna Miller, and Seth McFarlane, among others.

“The Loudest Voice” is set to premiere on Showtime on June 30.

Here’s the synopsis:

In today’s politically charged media landscape, no figure looms larger, even after his passing, than Roger Ailes, molding Fox News into a force that irrevocably changed the conversation about the highest levels of government.
