Universal Picks Up Tomas Alfredson's 'Tinker, Tailor, Solder, Spy' With Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, More

One of our most anticipated films of the year now has a home on our shores as Deadline reveals that Universal has picked up the domestic distribution rights for “Let The Right One In” director Tomas Alfredson‘s English language debut, “Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy.”

Featuring a phenomenal cast made up of Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, Svetlana Khodchenko, Toby Jones, John Hurt, Stephen Graham and Kathy Burke, the film is an adaptation of John Le Carre‘s classic spy thriller. Adapted for the screen by the talented Peter Morgan (”The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) the story follows a British Intelligence operative whose task is to delve into the world of Cold War espionage and root out a Soviet mole in the Circus, the highest echelon in the British Intelligence Services.

Given the talent involved, it’s no surprise that the film was a hot ticket with The Weinstein Company and Summit reportedly chasing the film as well. “Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy” is in post-production and no shocker to learn that it’s being primed for an awards season release date of November or December.

What else can we say? Alfredson + this cast + Carre = WINNING (to steal a page from The Book Of Sheen). We can’t wait to see what’s in store and with Universal behind the film, Alfredson will be making his Hollywood bow in grand fashion (and yes, that is what Tom Hardy will look like in the film).
