Paul Bettany Says 'Wandavision' Will Make You Think About MCU "In A Whole Brand New Way"

Since she first appeared in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” there have been few other characters as confusing as Scarlet Witch. Now that we’re finally getting a Scarlet Witch-centric story with “WandaVision,” this may change soon. According to star Paul Bettany, this show will change what you think you know about the entire MCU.

In an interview with Collider, Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, teased that the show will be uniquely connected to the rest of the Marvel Universe. “I think it’s gonna make you think about the MCU in a whole brand new way, but I do think that it’s absolutely a part of that universe,” Bettany said. “As each episode unfolds, the audience will be able to peel back layer upon layer until this rather beautiful puzzle box [until it is revealed to make sense]. All of the bonkers stuff will be about something.”

Bettany also seemed to tease that the show will slowly make its way to the timeline of the MCU, at least when it comes to the visual style. When answered that TV eras the show will pay homage to, Bettany said “It’s the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and all of it. And then, we end up in the MCU, in the real world.”

In a recent interview, Kevin Feige hinted that “WandaVision” will finally give some answers to what Scarlet Witch’s powers really are, which he admitted are ill-defined. “Who else is aware of that power? Where did it come from? Did the Mind Stone unlock it?”

For those who have read the comics, Scarlet Witch’s biggest power is her ability to manipulate the very fabric of reality, best explored in a storyline called “House of M” where a mentally unstable Wanda rewrites reality and almost eliminates all mutants. Now, with how Feige has previously teased that this show will be hugely important for the future of the MCU, maybe “WandaVision” will be our introduction to the X-Men and mutants in the MCU? It wouldn’t be out of the question to imagine Wanda making everyone forget about them at some point in the past, and the show may bring them back.
