Report: David Lynch Has A New Project In The Works At Netflix

There have been rumors about David Lynch working on a new project for Netflix for months. Well, it seems like things are finally moving, at least according to a new report. If it proves to be true, then Lynch would begin production on the project currently titled “Wisteria” in May.

The report comes from industry trade Production Weekly, but according to Indiewire, Netflix has provided no comment whatsoever, so remember taking a huge chunk of salt with the report. The publication notes that longtime Lynch collaborator Sabrina S. Sutherland is on board to produce the project, which is set to film in Los Angeles, there is no word on whether this would be a film or TV series.

David Lynch has not made a feature film since “Inland Empire” in 2006, after which he returned to co-wrote and direct every single episode of “Twin Peaks: The Return” in 2017 for Showtime. The filmmaker’s last project was the bizarre Netflix short “What Did Jack Do?” which debuted earlier this year.

Though there have been unconfirmed rumors of Lynch’s next project for a while, the filmmaker himself said earlier this year that he’d “be probably making a film or a continuing story” if it wasn’t for the pandemic. Of course, some people took this to believe that Lynch was thinking of making a new season of “Twin Peaks,” and star Kyle MacLachlan previously hinted that he’d be open to reprising his role. But this weekend, “Twin Peaks” co-creator Mark Frost dismissed rumors of being involved with the Netflix project, Tweeting “Not involved at all.”
