Well, the first verdict is in on "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" from the Hollywood trades, and the waning YA franchise is going out with all the excitement of a deflating balloon. Variety has called it "downright ridiculous," THR says it "won’t convert any nonbelievers," while The Wrap notes that the sequel "brings back the same cast of characters to do more or less exactly what they did in the previous films." Basically, if you’re not already a fan, this won’t covert you.

Nonetheless, perhaps for the sake of completion and the packaging of future boxsets, Summit is pressing ahead with "The Divergent Series: Ascendant," tasking Lee Toland Krieger ("Age Of Adaline," "The Vicious Kind," "Celeste & Jesse Forever") to take over from Robert Schwentke, who had planned to direct, but recently exited following ‘Allegiant.’
