Watch: Channing Tatum Shows Off His Gravity Boots In First Clip From ‘Jupiter Ascending’

Jupiter Ascending

Even with “Cloud Atlas” and its nearly three hour runtime, it seems the Wachowskis still had some sci-fi theatrics and leftover prosthetics ready to go for another round. Mainstream appeal be damned, they’ve boldly prepared “Jupiter Ascending,” a futuristic fairy tale of sorts starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, and after two trailers that both boggled and intrigued, we’ve got the first actual clip from the film.

Following a young house cleaner (Kunis) in Chicago who’s given the news by a bounty hunter that she’s the next heir to the universe, the Wachowski’s latest returns to their particular epic approach, and a sizable cast joining Tatum and Kunis: Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, James D’Arcy and Tim Pigott-Smith. The first clip (via MovieWeb) from the film also showcases the directing duo’s odd and earnest sense of humor, as Tatum’s character explains his snazzy gravity boots to Kunis before they step out from the top floors of the former-and-eternal Sears Tower.

As with all of the Wachowski’s output, “Jupiter Ascending” looks to be another operatic composite of sci-fi tropes, tones, and philosophical leanings, one hard to get any sort of read on until opening day. But take a look at the clip below and decide for yourself before the film is released July 18th.
