“X-Men: Apocalypse” has already opened overseas, and in addition to getting the blockbuster early, U.K. audiences are also being treated to a five-minute trailer for “Independence Day: Resurgence.” I don’t know about you, but I think trailers already give away far too much these days, and I can only imagine that a five minute sizzle reel is basically going to be a supercut for the movie. So I’d advise to proceed with caution.
The Will Smith-less sequel finds Roland Emmerich back behind the camera, this time with Liam Hemsworth leading the way, with new faces like Maika Monroe and arthouse attraction Charlotte Gainsbourg, along with returning players like Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Brent Spiner. It looks like more Earth mega-destruction porn if you haven’t had enough already. Here’s the official synopsis:
We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defence program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
“Independence Day: Resurgence” arrives on June 24th.
