Watch: Sam Rockwell Lines Up A 'Single Shot' In New Trailer

nullThough the development process wound up stretching across a couple of years, with a few actors coming and going along the way, it’s hard to argue with the impressive lineup David M. Rosenthal (“Janie Jones“) assembled for “A Single Shot“:  Sam Rockwell, Jeffrey Wright, Jason Isaacs, William H. Macy, Melissa Leo, Kelly Reilly (“Flight,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows“) and Ophelia Lovibond (“No Strings Attached,” “London Boulevard“). Not too shabby at all. And while it was one of our most anticipated movies of the Berin International Film Festival, the end result didn’t exactly win us over, but you’ll soon be able to judge for yourself.

The first trailer for the movie has dropped, and it certainly highlights mood over plot or anything else. Based on the book by Matthew F. Jones, the story follows Rockwell’s John Moon, a hunter who accidentally shoots a teenage girl and then discovers a small fortune while trying to dispose of her body. But he’s soon on the run from killers looking to retrieve their money, and he’s forced to defend his life and his family. As our own Jessica Kiang wrote out of Berlin, the movie “features some interesting, atmospheric scene-setting and another standout performance from Sam Rockwell” but it’s ultimately a “patchwork” of decent moments that don’t quite come together.

“A Single Shot” hits the Tribeca Film Festival later this month, but doesn’t have distribution lined up just yet. [The Film Stage]
