Will Ferrell Is 'The Flamingo Thief'

nullWhen Will Ferrell goes the dramedy route, wives have not always done him well. In last year's "Everything Must Go," an impending divorce found his character fully embracing his alcoholism while in Woody Allen's "Melinda & Melinda" (an underrated movie and performance) a new downstairs neighbor becomes a temptation. Well once again, a woman will cause Ferrell to do something quirky in his latest detour from balls out comedy, "The Flamingo Thief."

Produced via Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films shingle, the film is based on the book by Susan Trott about a man who starts stealing pink flamingos after his wife leaves him. Michael LeSieur ("You Me & Dupree," "The Maiden Heist") penned the screenplay, and if you think it all sounds a bit too oddball, just bear in mind it landed on the Black List last year. While LeSieur's produced scripts thus far have been fairly bland, we'll keep the faith that this time around he's got something on his hands that could be special.

But for those of you who like your Ferrell straight up and funny, not to worry. He's got two laffers coming in "Casa De Mi Padre" and "Dog Fight" this year, and oh yeah, he did the player introductions this week at a game between the New Orleans Hornets and Chicago Bulls which you can watch below. As for "The Flamingo Thief," the hunt is on for a director. [Variety/THR]
