'X-Men' Actress Alexandra Shipp Isn't Excited About Maybe Joining Massive MCU Roster: "Storm Barely Has Anything To Say As it Is"

We are still over two months away from the release of the upcoming “X-Men” film, “Dark Phoenix.” And unfortunately for the cast of the film, the publicity tour they’re about to embark on will be filled with questions about the future of the franchise how that Disney owns Fox. Of course, it’s unlikely anyone will know the real answers, but it will definitely be the prevailing topic of conversation. In fact, the question already is affecting the actors, as ‘Dark Phoenix’ actress Alexandra Shipp was asked about it over the weekend and you can tell she’s not as amped on the idea of the X-Men joining Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers.

Speaking at WonderCon (via CBM), Shipp said she’s not looking forward to the X-Men becoming part of the MCU because that means she’s likely to have a much smaller role.

She explained, “I would and I wouldn’t (like it), because Storm barely has anything to say as it is. I don’t know about you all (other actors) but like we never talk. So it would be really nice if we weren’t piled into yet another jam-packed cast, in which you only see me in the back of the shot like fucking sasquatch.”

Obviously, this is going on the assumption that Storm and the rest of the X-Men will integrate into the MCU without a major reboot (and recasting). That’s clearly not going to happen, as Marvel Studios is likely only interested in starting fresh with the franchise, as the ‘X-Men’ films have been popular, but not great, for Fox. So, Shipp is likely not going to get another shot at playing Storm after ‘Dark Phoenix.’

Speaking of ‘Dark Phoenix,’ before we get to this idea of the X-people joining the MCU, there’s this whole new film that has yet to be released. And according to Shipp, ‘Dark Phoenix’ isn’t like the previous ‘X-Men’ film, ‘Apocalypse,’ which wasn’t well received by fans. This new outing is much more gritty.

“I love the fashion of it, I love the colors.” Shipp said (via Comicbook.com). “When we first started ‘Apocalypse,’ it was like walking onto a comic book. You felt like you were walking into a comic book, and what I love about ‘Dark Phoenix’ is that, it is way more gritty. I think it affects you in a way more visceral way because it’s not a comic vibe. It’s very real, it’s very raw, and it was scary at times. It’s scary to think that someone you love is losing their mind.”

If you’re a fan of the Fox ‘X-Men’ franchise, it appears that ‘Dark Phoenix’ will likely be your last time to watch these characters on the big screen, in the universe that started almost 20 years ago. ‘Dark Phoenix’ hits theaters on June 7.
