Between acquiring new movies and making their own, Salke looks to step up the number of films released every year on Amazon Prime. Namely, she’s looking towards the ballpark of 30. One year on the job as studio chief, and Salke already is reaching high.

Originally, Amazon gives their movies the full theatrical release, something that set them apart from Netflix. However, when asked if that would continue, Salke says she ready to make changes.

“You’ll see less of the three-month window, and you’ll see different variations. Even through the Sundance, I learned a lot about just how flexible we can be with those models, and they really vary. In some cases, it’ll be important for us to get the movie quickly to the service, while still following through with a theatrical release that feels much shorter, two weeks even, two to eight weeks. And then in other cases, we’ll allow, where it makes sense, a wider release strategy.”

Salke goes on to say how she working with other big names like Nicole Kidman and Jason Blum to just start rapid-fire direct to service movie making. “I’m like, ‘Let’s just get those movies directly, where we could release over the summer,'” Salke says. “Every Saturday night, one of those comes out, and then you create some binge-ability and a marketing story behind it…There could be 20 direct to service movies managed within a given year also at least.”

That, and the fact that they already have their hands on the “Lord of the Rings” franchise means we better grab the popcorn and get ready for a lot of new content.
