Lars Von Trier Reveals He's Back At Work On 8-Part TV-Series 'The House That Jack Built,' Plot Details Emerge

“I don’t know if I can make more films, and that worries me,” Lars von Trier admitted at the end of 2014. In an interview at the time, the director revealed he was newly sober and was struggling to figure out how to work  —all of his previous pictures (except “Nymphomaniac“) had been produced while he was under some influence or other. The filmmaker has revealed he’s back to work on his previously announced English language TV project “The House That Jack Built.”

Visiting the University Of Copenhagan, von Trier said he’s still writing the 8-part series that producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen has described as “without precedent.” Even more, plot details have emerged, with the show following a serial killer, but from the murderer’s point of view. However, von Trier is still battling his ability to stay sober and also his wildly fluctuating emotions.

“I drink moderately – probably not moderately enough,” he said. “For the moment I feel really shitty. I cry and cry… yes, a sensitive man.”

The 58 year-old director is also concerned with his impending age: “I am very attentive to the possibility of becoming too old to make films and when it happens.” But he still has not yet lost his sense of self-deprecating humor: “I am the man who has made the most trilogies of only two films —’The Kingdom 1 + 2‘ and ‘Dogville‘ and ‘Manderlay.’ ”

While originally slated to be completed in time to air in 2016, it’s not clear if “The House That Jack Built” is still on that timeline. But the hunt is on for a major star to take the lead role. [Cineuropa]
