17 Must-See April Films: ‘The Drama,’ ‘The Christophers,’ ‘Mother Mary,’ ‘Normal’ & More

Exit 8
Based on the 2023 game, “Exit 8” is a psychological horror film from director Genki Kawamura. Co-written by Kawamura and Kentaro Hirase, the film follows a young man who, realizing he’s stuck in a subway station, learns that he must complete a mission in order to escape. Kazunari Ninomiya stars as The Lost Man. 
Release Date: In theaters April 10 via NEON.

Hamlet
Riz Ahmed stars in the latest iteration of “Hamlet,” from director Aneil Karia and writer Michael Leslie, taking place in modern-day London. Ahmed plays Prince Hamlet, who is haunted by his father’s ghost and finds himself exploring the city’s underground communities in a quest to avenge his father. Ahmed is joined by Morfydd Clark, Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chaddha, Avijit Dutt, Art Malik, and Timothy Spall.
Release Date: In theaters April 10 via Focus Features. 

The Christophers
Director Steven Soderbergh returns with another lean caper with “The Christophers.” Written by Ed Solomon (“No Sudden Move”), the film stars Ian McKellan, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning, and James Corden. The film follows the estranged children of an artist who hires a forger to finish his paintings so they can be sold. 
Release Date: In theaters April 10 via NEON. 

Mother Mary
Anne Hathaway is on her way to having a big spring with the upcoming release of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” But first, there’s the musical drama, “Mother Mary.” Directed by David Lowery, the film stars an eclectic cast including Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Alba Baptista, Sian Clifford, and FKA Twigs. Written by Lowery, the film follows an intense affair between a pop singer and a fashion designer. 
Release Date: In theaters April 17 via A24.

Roommates
From director Chandler Levack, writer Jimmy Fowlie, and produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions comes “Roommates,” starring Sadie Sandler and Chloe East—the two star as college freshmen with opposite personalities who must deal with the difficulties of dorm life. The Netflix film stars Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Sadie Sandler, Chloe East, and Storm Reid.
Release Date: Available to stream April 17 via Netflix.
