Mescudi will write, direct, and star in “Doe,” an addiction drama that he’s already shooting in LA. Set over the course of 24 hours, the film follows a homeless man living on the streets of Hollywood as he drifts through a series of encounters that pull him in and out of the cycles of his drug habit. Mescudi will also executive produce the project, and write original songs for it as Kid Cudi; so this is quite the multi-hyphenate effort for him.

“Doe” also stars Mark Webber, Leah McNamara, Brandon Scott, and Brandon Perea. Other executive producers include Karina Manashil, who does so with Mescudi through their Mad Solar banner, with Webber, Anthony Baldino, and Ryan Lacen producing. As for when “Doe” will reach audiences? Since it’s already in production, early 2027 is a safe bet.

“Directing for me has been the ultimate dream of mine since I was a little boy,” Mescudi told Deadline in an interview about the projrect. “I’ve always been fascinated with film, and I’ve been sharpening my sword for years waiting for this very moment. It’s truly been the best experience filming this movie and I can’t wait for the world to see a true work of passion and love, made with friends.”

Mescudi takes on “Doe” after having directed several of his own music videos, as well as Entergalactic,” a visual companion to his album of the same name that he did for Netflix with Kenya Barris. He and Barris won an Emmy for that one. Of course, Mescudi is best known for his rap career, with 11 albums to date. “Free,” his latest, was released last summer. As for acting, Mescudi has starred in films and TV shows since 2010. Recent onscreen highlights for him include Ti West‘s “X“, “Don’t Look Up,” “House Party,” and “Happy Gilmore 2,” among others.

Along with “Doe,” other upcoming film projects for Mescudi include the animated film “Slime,” which he also produces, and will create an original soundtrack and score for. Mescudi’s Mad Solar also recently wrapped “God Backwards,” which Mescudi stars in with Jessica Rothe.

Expect “Doe” in theaters sometime in early 2027. Stay tuned for a teaser for the film later this year.
