While the world might seem a little dark right now following last night’s election results, you can find hope at the cinema this weekend with Denis Villeneuve‘s “Arrival.” The filmmaker’s alien-invasion movie is one of the best sci-fi films in recent memory, but also a particularly heart-swelling picture, which is a rarity in the genre. And some new clips and photos have landed in advance of the film.
Amy Adams leads the cast as Louise Banks, a linguist brought in by the military to communicate with a mystery array of alien spacecraft that have landed on Earth. Are they hostile? Friendly? What do they want? It’s on Louise’s shoulders to figure it out and what she discovers is something no one could’ve imagined. Here’s the official synopsis:
When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team — lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers — and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
Co-starring Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker, “Arrival” opens on Friday.
