If you think Christoph Waltz is a pretty strange interview you’re absolutely right. The two-time Oscar winner isn’t interested in idle chit chat. He wants to keep things lively. He wants to make it…interesting. When we spoke a few months ago about his role in Alexander Payne’s “Downsizing” our conversation quickly veered to his dislike, er, tolerance for Method acting.
“I wouldn’t [tell them not to do it], but I wouldn’t want them to tell me their way either,” Waltz says. “It can be a little burdensome, yes. So, you just steer away. Yes, I could engage in a dispute about it because I think I have a few arguments ready from my experience and what I have studied and learned and trained, but that doesn’t mean more than that. It’s still them that have to do it and they should be entitled to be able to do it their way.”

Or the fact he still hasn’t been forced to do improvisation on screen yet.
“I’m lucky that i haven’t had a director that requires improvisation,” Waltz says. Then under his breath, “They are real people.”
Waltz also talks about his feature directorial debut, “Georgetown” with Annette Bening and Vanessa Redgrave, which sounds like it wasn’t that fun to helm and more.
Frankly, even if you are just casually curious about Waltz, it’s a fascinating listen.
