With the stresses and anxieties of the entire world ever present, we all feel like we could lose it any day now. But at least we can rest assured we are not so far gone to find ourselves inĀ Starz‘s latest series, “Now Apocalypse.”
A trippy, neon-clad ride, “Now Apocalypse” is set to premiereĀ at Sundance Film Festival, which is just around the corner.Ā The psychedelic show has quite the team behind it.Ā Steven Soderbergh is serving as one of the executive producers for the show along with Gregory Jacobs, his longtime producing partner, first A.D., and director of “Magic Mike XXL.” The filmmakerĀ previously worked with Starz on āThe Girlfriend Experienceā and āNowĀ Apocalypse,ā was just given a 10-episode straight-to-series order from the network.
While also serving as an executive producer,Ā Gregg Araki directs the series. The filmmaker has dabbled quite a bit on TV, with credits to “Heathers,” “Riverdale,” and “13 Reasons Why” to name a few. On the film side, Araki is known for “Mysterious Skin” and “White Bird in a Blizzard.”
Here’s the official trailer and full synopsis:
āNow Apocalypseā is a half-hour comedy series created and executive produced by Gregg Araki (Kaboom, Mysterious Skin). Steven Soderbergh (āThe Girlfriend Experience,ā Logan Lucky) and Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike XXL, āRed Oaksā) also serve as executive producers. This surreal, coming-of-age comedy series centers on Ulysses (Avan Jogia, āTut,ā āTwistedā) and his friends Carly (Kelli Berglund, āLab Rats,ā Dolly Partonās Christmas of Many Colors), Ford (Beau Mirchoff, āAwkward,ā āThe Fostersā) and Severine (Roxane Mesquida, Kaboom, āGossip Girlā), who are on various quests pursuing love, sex and fame.
The series has quite the distinct look, and isn’t holding anything back.Ā āIf this isnāt the craziest thing Iāve ever read, itās tied for first,ā said Soderbergh last year. āWe will not be responsible for peopleās heads splitting in half when they see it.ā
Well, that’s certainly a ringing endorsement. āNow Apocalypseā stars Avan Jogia, Kelli Berglund, Beau Mirchoff, Roxane Mesquida and premieres March 10 on Starz.
