‘Mason’: Showtime Orders Comedy Pilot From Daniels & A24

Since its premiere at SXSW in March, Daniels‘ “Everything Everywhere All At Once” has become A24‘s highest-grossing movie ever. The film crossed the $100 million mark at the global box office this past weekend, passing Ari Aster‘s “Hereditary” in the process. So, now the big question is: how will Daniels and A24 follow up that movie’s huge success?

Well, there now may be an answer to that question. Variety reports that Showtime has ordered a comedy pilot from the filmmaking duo and A24 titled “Mason.” The new show is a collaboration between Daniels and actor/writer Nathan Min, who stars as the comedy’s title character. Variety describes the show as “a surrealist comedy about a quiet man named Nathan, often misheard as “Mason,” seeking connection in a loud world.” That sounds like a very Daniels-friendly premise.

Daniels (the showbiz title for Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan) will direct and executive produce the series, along with their producing partner Jonathan Wang. Min also executive produces on top of his starring role. And, in a nice bit of intrigue, Steven Yeun also executive produces under his Universal Remote banner with Adam Kopp. Will Yeun star in the series, too? That’s yet to be determined.

Daniels also worked with Showtime on the 2019 comedy series “On Becoming A God In Central Florida.” They also teamed together for 2016’s “Swiss Army Man.”

Outside of acting and writing, Min is also a cartoonist and a stand-up comedian. Writing credits include sketches on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Joe Pera Talks With You.” Recent acting credits include the web series “WeCrashed” and “Helpsters.”

Yeun has previously worked with A24 on “Minari,” and “The Humans,” and his upcoming Netflix series “Beef.” Catch him in Jordan Peele‘s new movie “Nope,” in theaters now.

Will “Nathan” catch fire like “Everything Everywhere All At Once” has this year? The show only just had its pilot ordered, so it may be a while before an answer. In any case, Daniels are a hot Hollywood commodity right now.
