The Owens sisters are back, and yes, the family curse is still very much a problem. Nearly three decades after Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman first cast their spell in “Practical Magic,” the duo returns for “Practical Magic 2,” a new sequel steeped in ancestral magic, dark romantic trouble, and the kind of moonlit chaos that made the original a beloved cult favorite.

Directed by Susanne Bier, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning Danish filmmaker behind “In a Better World,” “Bird Box,” “The Night Manager,” “The Undoing,” and “The Perfect Couple,” “Practical Magic 2” once again centers on the Owens sisters, played by Bullock and Kidman, as they confront the dark curse that threatens to unravel their family once and for all. This time around, the cast also includes Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, Solly McLeod, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing.
The film is written by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett, and Kelly Marcel, and is based on Alice Hoffman’s novel “The Book of Magic.” Producers include Denise DiNovi, Bullock, and Kidman, with Donald Sabourin, Hoffman, Andrew A. Kosove, and Broderick Johnson serving as executive producers.
The original “Practical Magic” has only grown in reputation over the years, finding a devoted audience drawn to its mixture of sisterhood, romance, grief, witchcraft, and late-night margarita energy. With Bullock and Kidman returning, the sequel clearly aims to recapture that same balance of fun, magic, and mayhem while expanding the Owens family mythology.
