‘Fast X’ New Trailer: The Penultimate Film In The ‘Fast & Furious’ Franchise Hits Theaters On May 19

Somehow, over twenty-odd years and the tragic passing of Paul Walker, one of its leading cast members, the “Fast & Furious” franchise became one of the biggest movie franchises of the 21st century. But after nine films, “Fast X” marks the beginning of the end for the street racing-heist series, with its upcoming sequel planned to be the final installment.

So all the more reason to make entry #10 as big and exciting as possible. “Fast X” sees Vin Diesel‘s Dom Teretto and his family face off against the son of an old foe, Jason Momoa‘s Dante Reyes, whose Brazilian kingpin father lost out to Dom’s crew in 2011’s “Fast Five.” And Dante isn’t just out for any old revenge: he wants to mastermind the end of Dom and his family for good.

Here’s a prolonged official synopsis for “Fast X” to boost the film’s new final trailer, courtesy of Universal Pictures:

Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.

In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante, witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.

Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.

Along with Diesel and Momoa, “Fast X” also stars Michelle RodriguezTyrese GibsonChris “Ludacris” BridgesNathalie EmmanuelJordana BrewsterJohn CenaJason StathamSung Kang, and Alan Ritchson.  Daniela MelchiorScott EastwoodHelen Mirren, Charlize Theron, and Brie Larson also star.  Rita Morena and Leo Abelo Perry, who plays Dom’s son, round out the main cast.

Louis Leterrier directs a script by Justin Lin (who Leterrier replaced as director), Zach Dean, and Dan Mazeau. Leterrier’s a good fit for the franchise, having also helmed the first two films in “The Transporter” franchise; he’ll also direct “Fast & Furious 11,” potentially in theaters next year.

Obviously, the “Fast & Furious” saga isn’t over, with one film left to round out the franchise. But the stakes couldn’t be higher for the series’ penultimate film. Who will survive against the vengeful plans of Dante Reyes for “Fast & Furious 11”? Find out when “Fast X” hits theaters everywhere on May 19. Watch the trailer for the film below.
